Abstract Photography - Surprising images from the natural world
P r o f i l e
The natural world is full of surprises and discovering
them is
only limited by our powers of observation. There is so much more to see
than meets the eye and this is what I try to discover and capture in my
work.
Digital photography can enhance our powers of perception. I let nature
provide the patterns and textures and the colours. I use technology to
enhance what is already there. Sometimes I add to the picture by using
natural objects found nearby. The results can be mysterious, vibrant,
challenging and, sometimes, weird!
I’m
privileged to live in one of the most beautiful areas of England, the
South Hams of Devon. Here are hidden valleys, tumbling
streams, ancient trees, and a stunning coast with rocky shores. This is
all the inspiration I need. I’m also greatly indebted to my
talented wife, Sara, without whom none of this would have happened.
I have no formal qualification in photography so I have no guidelines
to follow and no boundaries other than those I set
myself. I rarely superimpose images or use layers or any other
tricks made available by technology. But where I think it will make
a composition more interesting I will search within the picture for
hidden colours, those that are already there but we which we
cannot see.
